County Court Transcription

Need a transcript of court proceedings?

The Transcription Agency can help. We have been an approved supplier of Court transcription for HMCTS since 2007.

What does that mean?

This means that The Transcription Agency is one of a small number of transcription companies in the UK authorised to transcribe County Court hearings and judgments from the High and County Courts of England and Wales as well as Crown Court proceedings from the South West and Wales.  The Transcription Agency, its premises and personnel have undergone extensive security and quality checks in order to be an approved transcription supplier for HMCTS. All staff working for The Transcription Agency who will have access to sensitive information including protectively marked material, e.g. restricted, confidential, and occasionally, secret or top secret, will have undergone a DBS check, identity checks, immigration checks, right to work checks and signed confidentiality agreements.

How do I find out more about the process?

For your ease we've put together a list of our commonly asked questions below.

Why should I choose The Transcription Agency?

All Court transcription is carried out by our experienced legal transcription team who have full access to support materials to ensure complete accuracy. 100% of transcripts are fully reviewed before they are then assessed for accuracy by our Quality Control Team. Our Management Team and transcribers are fully committed to ensuring the process of receiving your transcription is as smooth and as efficient as possible.

How do I get a transcript of my court proceedings?

Whether your hearing was heard at a Crown Court, a County Court or a Tribunal, an EX107 form must be completed in order to request a transcript or a copy of an existing transcript. You need to fully complete the EX107 form that can be found on the Justice.gov website - please refer to the Guidance Notes that are also available regarding how to complete the EX107 form.  You will need to send your completed EX107 to the relevant Court yourself.

I don't have an EX107 form, where can I get it from?

You can access the form from the Justice.gov website or by clicking on 'Download EX107 Form Here' box at the top of this page.

I’ve sent my EX107 form to the court, what happens next?

We need to wait until we receive the relevant recordings and/or permission from the court.

For County Court hearings, recordings are normally dispatched by a court within 10 days of receipt of an EX107 request, although this can take longer. Sometimes, if a court is busy, it is not uncommon to receive recordings up to 4 weeks later. The Transcription Agency will always confirm receipt of recordings upon their arrival from the court.

For Crown Courts, we must wait for the Court to approve your transcription request and send the Court approved EX107 request to us before we can proceed further.  The Transcription Agency will always confirm receipt of this upon it's arrival.

If you have not received an email from us within 2 - 3 weeks of you submitting your EX107 form confirming that we have the recordings/permission, we recommend that you contact the court to discuss the matter.

What happens when the recordings/permissions arrive with you?

Once the relevant recordings have arrived at The Transcription Agency's office, an email confirmation will be sent to you advising that the recordings have been received. We require the estimated cost of the transcription to be paid in full prior to any work being undertaken and it is at this point that you need to provide this payment.

I made a payment to you, when will I receive my transcript?

Our standard turnaround for transcribing Crown, County Court and Tribunal proceedings is 12 working days from receipt of relevant recordings/permission and the estimated payment.

All transcripts of judgments have to be approved by the judge who delivered the judgment before we are permitted to return it to you. We have no control over the time the judge takes to return the approved judgment to us. Once we have received an approved judgment alterations are made as instructed by the judge and the document is then sent to the contact specified on the EX107 form. We are not permitted to send you the judgment before it is approved.  Sometimes transcripts of proceedings are requested to be approved and on these occasions the approval process for judgments is followed.

I need my transcript quickly. Do you offer a quicker turnaround?

For County Court hearings and Tribunals we can provide turnarounds quicker than 12 working days, which we will be able to advise on once we have received the recordings from the court.  Please note that for transcripts which require approval, quicker turnarounds are to supply the court with the draft transcript (as explained in the FAQ above).

For Crown Court hearings we can also provide a 7 working day, 3 working day, 48 hour (working days only) and overnight (24 hour turnaround) service for premium rates.  Please contact us to discuss availability for these turnarounds.

How is the completed transcript sent to me?

We return transcripts to clients as a PDF document via email.
